Keeping an oil-based formula fresh

Extra virgin olive oil holds its character best in the dark and at a steady room temperature. When daylight hits an oil continually, the structure begins to shift. This is why our micellar water comes in a 200 ml tinted glass bottle and our Wonderful Repair Oil rests inside amber glass. The darker glass filters the sharper edge of morning sun, while a tightly turned screw cap keeps outside air from circulating across the surface.

Bathrooms are often the most demanding room in a home for simple cosmetics. A sunny window sill or a shelf directly above a warm radiator exposes a face cream to rapid temperature swings every time someone runs hot water. Storing our Nourishing Moisturising Cream or Antiox Hand Cream inside a closed cabinet or on a low bedroom dresser keeps the temperature even from week to week.

Every carton and label carries a small open-jar icon marked with a number. That symbol indicates how long a product is intended to remain fresh after the seal is broken and the first dose is drawn. Your own senses are more reliable than a printed calendar when checking an oil. Fresh extra virgin olive oil smells green, clean, and slightly earthy. When an oil-rich formula drifts past its best, that crispness fades into a flat, stale scent like old cardboard or turned wax. If the odor changes or the color turns dull in the jar, the natural oils have oxidized.

Selecting smaller packaging makes practical sense if you reach for a product only occasionally. A single 15 g tin of Natural Moisturising Lip Balm or a 30 ml dropper bottle is easy to work through while the plant oils remain entirely fresh. Leaving a half-used container sitting open for years on a sunny ledge simply allows the ambient air to do its slow, quiet work.
