How an oil behaves on skin

Plant oils differ in weight, slip, and how long they stay on the surface. We bottle our repair oil in a 30 ml dropper bottle at the mill in Plasencia so you can measure small amounts by the drop, whether you use it on the face, through the ends of hair, or over dry patches on the body.

The way an oil feels depends on its balance of fatty acids and how closely it sits against the skin. Lighter oils spread quickly and leave a dry finish within minutes, while heavier bases remain present on the surface for longer, giving more drag as you work them in. Our repair oil combines extra virgin olive oil with argan, chia, avocado, pomegranate, and sunflower oils to give a fluid texture that moves easily without feeling sticky.

Controlling the amount you apply is the main reason we use a glass dropper. A whole pipette is almost always too much for the face, where two or three drops warmed between clean palms are enough to cover the cheeks and forehead. The dropper lets you dispense a single drop at a time, so you can adjust the quantity between a dry winter morning and a warm evening.

Layering works best when you place the oil over your cream rather than under it. Water-based creams and emulsions need to reach the skin first to supply moisture. Putting our repair oil on top forms a thin protective barrier that holds that moisture in place throughout the day, without displacing the Nourishing Moisturising Cream underneath.

Rough areas on the body often need a different approach than the face. Elbows, knees, and the tops of the feet take five or six drops worked directly into dry spots after a wash, where the oil takes several minutes to settle into the skin. It leaves a soft, conditioned feel on coarse areas without rubbing off onto clothing once it sinks in.

Hair ends benefit from the smallest amount you can measure. Rubbing a single drop across your fingertips and pressing it into the bottom two inches of damp or dry hair coats the rough fiber without weighing down the strands. The glass bottle stays upright on a shelf or bathroom ledge, keeping the dropper clean and ready for daily use.
